North American Manufacturing

Sumitomo's long-term commitment to the North American injection molding market is clearly evidenced by the company's U.S.-based manufacturing facility. Built in 1998, the $10 million, 40,000 square foot facility is located in Jefferson, Georgia, 60 miles north of Atlanta.

Operating as a separate company, Sumitomo (SHI) Plastics Machinery Mfg., LLC, the facility today manufactures 55 through 385 ton Sumitomo all-electric injection molding machines.

Operations performed include:

  • Fabrication of machine bases
  • Machining of platens and various other parts
  • Sheet metal work for guards and doors
  • Plasticizing unit assembly
  • Assembly-line type manufacturing from frame assembly through piping, wiring, inspection, testing and paint booth using tracks in the floor (air pallets are used for the larger tonnage models)
